579. Edison Kinetoscope Filme (Los)

three extremely rare reels of educational and feature film for the Edison Home Kinetoscope, (1) L90H: Alices Adventures In Wonderland, (2) L83H: The Gauntlets Of Washington, (3) L73G: Star Spangled Banner. Each film strip aprox. 30 meters on special 22mm non-flam acetate film complete with start and end titles on wooden spools and in their original tin containers, all In good condition with intact perforation and no sign of chemical disintegration. Being a successful businessman Thomas Edison understood the value of the home market for his inventions and so he introduced the ambitious and expensive Home Projecting Kinetoscope in 1912. It was specially designed for home-cinema enthusiasts and utilized 22mm ‘safety film’, instead of 35 mm cellulose nitrate film. The Home Kinetoscope film has three rows of images sized 4 x 6 mm, separated by two rows of perforations. One column of images is cranked forward, the middle row backwards and the third row forwards again. A camera was deliberately not produced for the Edison Home Kinetoscope, therefore owners were forced to buy or rent films, made by Edison's studios, distributed via a network of authorized outlets. Although it is not exactly known how many different titles have been released, film stripes in this rare special format remain a highlight for every movie collector.
