Barbara Klemm’s interest in people is characterized by extraordinary sensitivity. From 1970 to 2005 – for more than three decades – she proved this as a staff photographer of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Furthermore, she had a decisive influence on the appearance of the renowned daily newspaper with her images from the political scene, photographs of daily life and portraits of international artists. In addition and during her travels, she also photographed people in museums, ultimately leading to a wonderful series in and of itself.
Once again, Klemm proves herself a sensitive observer here, a master at capturing intimate moments. One particularly good example is the image taken at the Louvre in Paris in 1987. Shot with a Leica M6, the photograph of an obviously bored guard next to a masterwork is convincing in its compositional severity and its multifaceted content.

Barbara Klemms Interesse am Menschen ist geprägt von einem außerordentlichen Feingefühl. Von 1970 bis 2005, also über mehr als drei Jahrzehnte, hat sie dies als Redaktionsfotografin der Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung unter Beweis gestellt. Darüber hinaus hat sie das Erscheinungsbild der renommierten Tageszeitung geprägt: mit Bildern vom politischen Parkett, Fotos aus dem Alltag oder Porträts internationaler Künstler. Daneben und auf Reisen sind immer wieder Aufnahmen von Menschen in Museen entstanden, am Ende eine wunderbare, in sich schlüssige Serie.
Einmal mehr beweist sich Klemm hier als sensible Beobachterin, der es meisterhaft gelingt, intime Situationen einzufangen. Ein besonders schönes Beispiel ist die 1987 entstandene Aufnahme im Pariser Louvre. Die Fotografie – aufgenommen mit einer Leica M6 – von einer offensichtlich gelangweilten Aufseherin neben einem Meisterwerk, überzeugt durch kompositorische Strenge und inhaltliche Vielschichtigkeit.
