474. Heinrich Kuehn Stegemann Studienkamera

The original, famous monorail 9x12cm camera designed for Heinrich Kühn and used by the artist for many years until he passed away in 1944, 70 years ago. The camera is still in good and complete condition with the original ivory nameplate engraved 'HEINRICH KUEHN INNSBRUCK' attached to the top. It comes with the original Dr. Staeble Soft-focus prototype lens set (Anachromat Kuehn) with an in-between-lens shutter (4 lenses engraved 'Dr. Staeble - Werk München A17 no.56549 (17cm), A20 no.56548 (20cm), A25 no.56547 (25cm), A31 (31cm) no.56546 + 2 yellow filters engraved 'Dr. Staeble - Werk München Weichzeichner Kuehn' and 'Kuehn Linse' + 3 multiple-whole aperture discs) - these lenses were developed by Kühn and are the forerunner of the Rodenstock Imagon. Also the outfit includes a light meter (Gios Akinometer), 2 handmade multiple-hole aperture discs, 2 mahogany double film holders, a complete Rodenstock Jmagon set, front ring engraved ' Rodenstock - Tiefenbildner -Jmagon f=20cm No.939588 D.R.P. Kühn', - The camera was always in family property and comes directly from his grandson. Heinrich Kühn is regarded one of the forefathers of fine art photography, the movement that helped photography to establish itself as an art on its own. His photographs closely resemble impressionist paintings, with their frequent use of soft lighting and focus.
